Public Comment for Proposed Fare Changes
The Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) who administers the Interurban Trolley announces a public comment period from November 1 to 30, 2018 to discuss proposed fare changes for the Interurban Trolley fixed route service. Proposed changes will affect the $3.00 day pass, transfers, and trolley tokens.
Lower Day Passes to $2
Discontinue Free Transfers
Trolley tokens will be replaced with a One Ride Pass
The Interurban Trolley Base fare of $1 per ride will remain the same
What riders will benefit?
Any rider who currently rides the trolley more than twice per day will see a fare savings. Riders currently purchasing day passes will see a cost savings of $1 with a reduction in their fare from $3 to $2.
Riders who ride the trolley for one round-trip per day with a transfer will pay the same fare as they do today, as a long as they buy a day pass for their first trolley trip.
The More You Ride!
The Less You Pay!
Will any riders see a fare increase?
Riders who make a one-way trip on the trolley who currently receive a free transfer between the Red, Green, Orange and Blue Lines (Transfers are no longer accepted or issued on the Yellow Line since August 20, 2018) will see a fare increase from $1 to $2.
How will these proposed changes effect Yellow Line Mishawaka/Elkhart Route riders?
If these proposed fare changes go into effect, all Yellow Line buses (regardless if operated by Transpo or the Interurban Trolley) will accept and issue the now reduced in price to $2 Interurban Trolley Day Pass.
Transpo Day Passes, costing $3 will continue to be accepted and sold on the Yellow Line only, and no fare changes to Transpo are are proposed at this time.
What will happen to tokens?
The Interurban Trolley is planning to retire trolley tokens and no longer accept them on board for fare payment after December 31, 2018.
All tokens are proposed to be replaced with One Ride trolley pass, to be sold for $1.00, accepted for one boarding on one Interurban Trolley route, and a One Ride Access punch card to be sold for $2.00.
MACOG will work with social service providers and others in the region that may have excess token inventories and allow those providers to exchange their tokens for the new one ride trolley passes, trolley day passes, and one ride Access punch cards.
The 30 day Public Comment period for these proposed fare changes began on November 1, 2018 and runs through November 30, 2018.
A Public Open House to discuss the proposed changes will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Elkhart Public Library (downtown), 300 S. 2nd St., Elkhart, IN
